The Brooklyn Bridge

There are many iconic buildings and monuments that are associated with the United States. Many have been built out of necessity while others have been built out of want. The Brooklyn Bridge is an iconic piece of American architecture that represent the character of the United States. The pride, perseverance and symbolism that is associated with the bridge is a great representation of America's character.

America has always been driven by our pride. We always strive to be the biggest and the best in no matter what the task may be. The Brooklyn Bridge is the biggest bridge in the world according to this documentary. It may have taken 14 years to build, but it is the best of the best. When one woman was asked about Neil Armstrong landing on the moon, she said "Nothing compared to the opening day of the Brooklyn Bridge.

This bridge is also a great representation of the perseverance that America has shown over the years. Some of the obstacles that had to be conquered where great. First, the politicians had problems with the chief engineer and tried to get him removed. Funding for the bridge had also been an issue. The construction of the roods was highly controversial and ultimately had to be redone. Workers had to battle harsh conditions and a sickness known as Caisson Disease. Through all the trials and tribulations, Emily Roebling was still able to ride over the bridge with a rooster in her hand.
