Prison Rate

A lot of people end up in prison, whether it is for a good reason of not. During my research. I found that over 2 million adults end up in our nation's prison system. I knew it was a large number, but to guess this high of a number is unreal to me. Our country has obviously done something wrong to have so the highest prison rate in the world. Some blame comes from mandatory sentencing laws and the record number of nonviolent drug offenders subject to them. I know that some of the crimes are not as bad as others so maybe we should aim towards the rehabilitation of those who don't commit a huge crime and make them understand the next time they won't b so lucky. This might no work considering that a lot of these people are drug dealers or drug users, but we will never know if we don't try.

Long term solitary confinement

The issue I looked into briefly was long-term solitary confinement. I think we generally refer to this as putting prisoners in the "hole" as punishment for bad or anti-social behavior. We also know from movies like The Shawshank Redemption that the "hole" can be used to put prisoners in line whether they are out of line or not. To be sure, it's a reform method that has some downsides, as humans are social creatures, and a lot of recent research has shown that solitary confinement when used too much has very profound and negative impacts on prisoners. Many even "hard-line" prisons that have no agenda or rehab for prisoners are rethinking the use of this type of confinement. This New Yorker article gives a lot of good food for thought on this subject.

Prisoners in jail.

I researched the issue of the number of people in the United States Jails. I learned from the New York Times that as of 2008 there were over 2.8 million people in prison. The United States alone has a quarter of the prison population in comparison to the world. Of that, there have been 289 people exonerated due to the advanced technology of DNA. If you think about it, that is not many, there could be thousands of inmates that have been wrongfully imprisoned, but cannot yet prove their innocence, or will not have the chance to. To make it even worse, there could be numerous people that have faced the death penalty who could have been innocent. Knowing this, Moreese Bickham was very lucky to have people on his side to help him prove his innocence through DNA testing.

Hi

My name is Melissa Haueisen, and I am an anthropology major. I love to read, do logic puzzles, and watch tv in my spare time.

The profile that interested me the most was Maury Graham. I liked this profile because it is about a lifestyle that is so different from my own. I never knew the history of hobos, so that was interesting to learn. Also, one thing that struck me about his life is that he seemed very satisfied with how he has lived his life, even though his lifestyle deviated from the norm.

hello everyone! i am Mohamed Aden, it's my fourth quarter at Ohio State University' I'm majoring in medical sonography. My hobbies are to travel in the summer time and play soccer with my fellow friends, i also enjoy spending my free time coaching the under 15 youth soccer team.
I have done a little research on Howard Hughes, i didn't know anything about this guy before, but now i read little bit about him. Howard is eccentric or unique person because he is not focusing on only one career but he have done a variety of things. He was one of the wealthiest people in the world at his time, Howard focused on many things, he was from business magnate, engineer, investor, aviator, film producer, director and philanthropist. I am surprised how this guy is managed so many things in life and he was very open-minded person for anything. Howard was famous of his first two films, ''Two Arabian Knights'' and ''Everybody Is Acting Up'' and he latter won the first Academy Award for best director of Comedy Picture.

Hello

Hello everyone my name is Lul Aden my major is nursing my hobbies is always to read magazines and journals.I like to spend my free time to learn the new words and vocabulary. The profile that I like is Moreese Bickham because i fell it's sad story happened to him and it is about back in days life.

Molly

Hello! My name is Molly. I am currently a senior, for the second time. I have a degree in Communications from The Ohio State University that I earned in 2005. I have been a flight attendant, a yoga instructor and a world traveler. I spent most of my time between degrees working fashion retail, design and marketing.

I have always really enjoyed learning people's life stories. To me the writing that precedes the story is where I see the art of writing the most. The writer is taking it upon himself to introduce someone that he does not know on more than a professional level. But the story is where the art form truly is. I enjoy thinking about what the author had to take into consideration when editing the tapes and transcribing it all, I would love to see the other drafts of the stories and talk to the author about why he omitted the parts he did and kept others.
